The Great Gatsby is book that tells a story of a man names Jay Gatsby and his obsession to win over a heart of a women. This very obsession leads to his own death threw a serious of events that were ultimately his fault because he wanted to succeed in love. People may conclude that this could be the "American Dream" at work and I believe it is.
Threw out the "The Great Gatsby" We learn many things before Jay Gatsby became the man that he was. He wasn't always this wealthy man in fact I consider him at the level of lower-middle class. He actually went to college but dropped out and worked as a janitor for the college making his own bank. It wasn't tell he meant a man and a women who would inspire him to became a rich man. So he put the work in and end up being rich and this was his mentally if you work hard enough he could do anything.
Gatsby put the work in and had the mentality of the "American Dream" which during the time many people believe to be true so he thought it could be applied to love. Then he dies for a dream that would not come true no matter how much work you put in. The American Dream is seen as you put in the work and you will win as long as the work is put in. This is the kind of people get when coming to American in search for a better life. This is part of our culture and people consider this true, Gatsby is this symbol that if you put in the work you will get what you want. But he also the example that this isn't always true. There are many examples we see now a day in people failing trying to achieve there dreams and you have those that actually achieve their dream's.
We see him as a man who really wanted it and got it and I feel like that's how people are now a days. Our own desires to get it done with a expectation that is going to happen no-matter the outcome. But in reality this isn't always going to be the case the main example being Gatsby's death he wanted daisy so bad and thought he could actually get it done. But we all know that he ends up death because of this his expectation was he going to get her to be with him. That got in the way of the reality we live in not everything is going to come out the way we thought. The american dream is something that many people to be true but we the reality is if you put in the work you aren't always going to get what you wanted.
