1. The purpose for why Hawthorne wrote this story I believe was to show that the mind could be fake or real as in our perception of reality from a dream It could be all in one one could be fake the other could be real or the opposite could be true.
2.I would have to say that in the end of the story there isn't really any faith let for faith. Mr. Brown seem to not being able to trust after the incident. I would say that her name fits good in the story because Mr. Brown believes that she is faithful and puts trust in that. He had faith in her but in the end the trust is very dull.
3. Honestly I have no clue what the pink ribbons signify the only thing that comes up to mind is the reminder of faith and how she is tied to the ribbons because she wears them.
4. I believe that what Mr. Brown had experienced was a clear act of drug and he was on some stuff that "GOOD" kind of stuff lol. Nah but for real I think that it was some kind of magic, evil,or illusion involved because they all seem to kill faith without any hesitation also the people even after that are acting it was the next day of a regular day as if nothing had happend. Like nobody did anything and If you ask me either thats some really good acting or they weren't there and It wasn't really but some kind of illusion
5. The old man did seem to know who and what had happend before Mr. Brown had come with him he knew about his family and how the have killed Indians so it must have been el diablo but then again it could have been some kind of internal subconscious of Mr. Brown reflecting how he doesn't see things as he think he does that every could be something complete from what you think they are.
6. The staff could mean life to follow along and not to stop because im a snake staff that will eat you alive if you dare to go the other way. Or maybe it was cursed to make him to keep on walking even if didn't want but thats a dumb idea
7. If Mr. Brown had not gone everything would have been fine probably i don't see why things would have gone wrong if he hadn't or maybe this destiny if meant to happen and it was only in his good faith to stop or to keep on going on.
